SR-22 is not an optional choice you have if the DMV sends you this letter. It's a requirement, and here are three questions you might have about it if you need it.

Is it insurance?

While it may seem like SR-22 is insurance, it is important to know that it really is not insurance. It is a form that proves that you have insurance, and the only way you can get the form is by purchasing insurance and asking for it to include an SR-22 form. This form is all you need to prove that you met the SR-22 requirement set by the DMV, but you can only get it if you buy it. Therefore, you must have auto insurance to get the form.

Will it cost more?
